25.04.2023Need to actually take charge and stop accepting console as the tournament standard with how piss poor it is. Sure cost is a factor but than explain why every other competitive scene uses PC? We need to just start using the best platform for the games and that's PC!

25.04.2023Edit: in regards to the mention of ”being tethered to a console.”
Fantastic! IMO, COVID really revealed a lot of weaknesses in industry pipelines (rhetoric, and how things get done). I couldn’t be less enthusiastic about a Switch Pro (that grifters and pushers keep harping on about online), just as little as I am for a PS5 pro and so on. Even Pixar cannot do Pixar these days, major gaming outlets feel zero enthusiasm about any new post pandemic game outside of the live action Streaming show The Last of Us, which also had another remake for the PS5! Consoles don’t exist long enough for developers to get curious.
I never seen Breath of the Wild as GOAT. It is not, it has always been experimental, though most of Nintendo’s most interesting efforts like Luigi’s Mansion and Captain Toad began life as a Zelda game! Breath of the Wild is Nintendo gestating on the Switch! I will be there for Tears of the Kingdom with bells on! 20 more years of the current consoles on the market!
I see Sony and MS fleeing consoles anyway with their pushes towards streaming and dumb things such as the cloud. So PC for the FGC is just the writing on the wall.
Great Stuff!

24.04.2023I think making PC the default platform for tournaments of any scale would be fantastic. The amount of controller configuration and compatibility options that it provides for players would simply be amazing and allow players to use whatever is most comfortable for them instead of having to upgrade their controller PCB or outright buy a new one. It would really open the local FGC open to a ton of players who may want to play; but don't have the means or desire to purchase a new input device to play.
However there are some issues that that developers should keep in mind when making fighting games to provide even greater flexibility for players looking to get together and play:
1. Game hardware: Not everyone has access to a PC/Laptop/SteamDeck, and those devices depending on their specifications may run the game at an undesirable frame rate; so I think having the ability to standardize the experience through certain variations of the PlayStation and Xbox would ensure comp integrity. (this is a bit more important for TO's, but they should know what options they have available and make the best choice given their circumstance)
2. Controller Hardware: Depending on your platform, you have a variety of input devices that are natively compatible with your fighting game (PC being the most). However, there is no hardware restriction preventing interoperability of these input devices on console. You can already play some games on PlayStation and Xbox with a keyboard/mouse native, or even use a physical adapter to connect a PlayStation controller to an Xbox. This is something that the developers of fighting games should fully embrace and provide as much controller compatibility for their game as possible.
3: Keyboard: Fighting games on PC have native support to use the keyboard as a controller. This is both a great way to play fighting games, and a great way to try a hitbox style layout without having to spend any additional money. Keyboard input can be supported on console and should (particularly as it already has the functionality on PC versions of the game), but another issue arises that is unique to this control method. Multiple players are not able to use their own keyboard and play against one another. This is obviously a massive problem and something that does happen; them's fighting herds had a grand finals where two keyboard players were set to play against each other, but one had to borrow someone's hitbox in order to play as the game could not differentiate between the inputs of two keyboard users. I'm not sure on the technical details for why this is an issue or how to fix it; but it is something that should be addressed.
4: Software SOCD cleaning: With the rise of button only controllers we should ensure that there are no differences in the input methods for these controllers. The easiest way to ensure that comp integrity is kept when players are able to bring any device they want to play on is to implement the SOCD or any other type of input validation on a software level for the game.
I think the FGC has a very bright future ahead, but devs should pay attention to these specific issues; but as a community we need to have some foresight and tackle these issues instead of simply believing that moving to PC is going to be a catch all fix to controller compatibility issues.

24.04.2023I love that PC is becoming standard. We don't need to worry about which controller we're going to use. Anything goes now! In fact, I'm suprised to see so many hit boxes. Will that become the standard someday?

22.04.2023I like this format. The only other source I know of for fighting game content is Button Check. I'm gonna be honest, button check is wack. I don't care about petty FGC drama. No one wins with drama. If I want my fix of petty drama, I go to r/kappa so everyone can laugh at them beefing.
Henré Botha
22.04.2023Wow, FGCOS is a huge undertaking. It does make me wonder if it isn't worth the effort to actually create a Linux distro for this though. I think big titles going forward are very likely to support Linux.

20.04.2023Tekken ok, But the rest of these games are a Bit too Simple for the FGC, where's the Advanced Games with Advanced mechanics like Killer Instinct, UFC, Dead or Alive, Mortal Kombat X/11, start testing those games you might get a surprise when your CPU & GPU go on overload, Aim Higher…

20.04.2023I have a softspot for the Mad Catz brand, and would love to see you break down the TE3. Personally, while I'm happy with my EGO stick there are some things that could have been better, and it's a shame that the TE3 is not an improvement but, rather, a doubling down on questionable compatibility "solutions".
