Bruce Lee is the legend of martial arts, no doubt about it. Fighting games very obviously enough have a lot of martial arts influence, and lots of characters have been based off various personalities over the years! However nobody has been honoured/copied/riped off more than Bruce Lee and this video is about those characters!

30.11.2022K' from KOF is often neglected, but he is full Bruce Lee. One inch punch and all.

30.11.2022Hon fu? Wasn't that like a show as well

30.11.2022Jann Lee has a ways to go before he's even in Jin Saotome's stratosphere of "Loudest Fighting Game Characters"

29.11.2022I think Kim Kaphwan should get some mention. While not based, just his voice and yell sort of takes on Bruce Lee.

29.11.2022You gotta have Bruce Lee inspired characters, atleast one, you just got to. Bruce lee started it all, he deserves to live eternally through every fighting game

29.11.2022I think that Hon Fu's appearence and character is based off of Jackie Chan's Sergeant Chan Ka-Kui from Police Story.

29.11.2022If you ask me, the Bruce Lee movie Enter the Dragon is responsible for fighting games in general, let alone these characters. Mortal Kombat is the most obvious example.
Benadryl Thundercrotch
29.11.2022It took me years to realize this, but Talbain from Darkstalkers is based on Bruce Lee and the howling being because he's a werewolf is absolute genius.
I thought Hon-Fu was supposed to be Jackie Chan.

27.11.2022It's always cool to see a homage to Bruce in fighting games, or games in general. Though I think Law's probably more well known than Fei Long, since Law's been in more games.

27.11.2022does j talbain count? from darkstalkers?

27.11.2022Didn't know that Vader/Raiden connection, idea for a future vid maybe you could point out all the reference characters in various FGs

27.11.2022Kim Dragon actually predated Fei Long. I think, I don't feel like googling it, he was the first of the Bruce Lee inspired fighters. I remember playing in the arcades in World Heroes before Super Street Fighter 2 released.

27.11.2022I think it's safe to say there's a clear distinction between being a Bruce Lee clone and just being a Jeet Kun Do practitioner…

27.11.2022Shout Out to HON-FU

27.11.2022You just blew my head off with that fact Bryan Cranston voiced FeiLong. I still have my VHS copy that I bought at Suncoast video 400 years ago and until this day I never even paid attention to the credits (odd since I normally do). True he wasn’t a big star at the time and I wouldn’t have probably recognized his name then but I’ve watched that movie in recent years and still had no clue. Rooflemonger I owe you for that one. 🖖😃🤯

26.11.2022I loved World Heroes back in the day. Unfortunately, it wasn't in a lot of arcades, so I'd have to play it either at the movie theater or find a big arcade where they had lots of different games, not just the most popular ones. Dragon was one of the characters I used a lot early on, mainly for his move that was (I think) a charge back then forward move which was sort of a Flash Kick move but where he'd surround himself with energy in the shape of a dragon head.
Solar Warrior
26.11.2022Forest law, Jann lee and jacky bryant are based off brandon lee(bruce Lee's son)
sarah is based on shanon lee(Bruce's daughter)

26.11.2022I’m a little late to watching this video but this was amazing! I would love more videos on characters influenced by movie stars or martial artists

26.11.2022Hi rooflemonger. love your stuff. I have a correction if you don't mind. Dragon from World Heroes predates Fei Long from SSF2. I believe that he is the 1st real carbon copy of Bruce Lee in a fighting game. He is an martial arts movie star just like Fei Long. His endings also talk about his movies that were inspired by his wins from the World Heroes tournment. I might be wrong regarding being the first ever but I'm pretty sure he came before Fei Long.
peace

26.11.2022Can't believe Walter White voiced Fei Long in the SF animated movie 😮 That's my biggest takeaway from this entertaining and informative video💯

MrMarket1987
25.11.2022Proud to say I know an obscure non-modified game presented here. Played World Heroes once in some seaside pizzeria with an arcade set of machines, and I had a blast with the cyborg. Sadly never saw it again and didn't really get a chance to "explore" the roster, as much of a fighting game novice as I still am… Fun thing to wander into nonetheless. Raputin made me laugh back then and still does.
As for loudest/annoying fighting game character… My candidate would be just about anyone voiced by Masako Nozawa… Her voice was perfect for young Goku and Gohan. Anyone else or variations is just grating to my ears. I love her performance, but having it as frequently playing soundbites crushes my soul.

25.11.2022I do kinda wish you could included K' from the King of Fighters series,
While yes, he doesn't look exactly like Bruce Lee, but he does have his signature "Jeet Kune Do" Fighting style, He does the One Inch Punch and the Dragon Kick, those are Proof enough.

25.11.2022The interesting thing about Jacky is for the Bruce Lee character who has the furthest resemblance to Bruce in look and plot, his Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do has many of the core elements of the art that are generally missing from the others: arm lops, pak sau counters, wing chun style trapping, bil gie eye rakes, and groin kicks. While the other Bruce clones mostly only capture his movie fighting style, Jacky represents both movie Bruce and true Jun Fan JKD. It's a pretty good testament to how much research the VF5 devs did for the martial arts they wanted to represent!

25.11.2022Where's Thomas from Kung Fu (NES) and Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon? Kakuto Chojin: Back Alley Brutal : Reiji? Tao Feng – Jiao Feng (Fiery Phoenix)?
The Angry Moth
25.11.2022On the matter of annoying vocals, i think there was a Street Fighter professional who dropped his main (Adon) because of that exact issue
Ramirez Serrano Daniel Aaron
25.11.2022Tecnically hong fu is a fusion between bruce lee and jackie chan, only see the comedy element, the haircut and the caracteristic nose
ShawZIIZ
25.11.2022Liu Kang is the best Bruce Lee inspired for me. He started as Bruce Lee clone, but then evolved into his own unique character, but still pay tribute to the legendary Bruce Lee. Plus, Liu Kang is the only Bruce Lee inspired character that truly embrace the heroic figure of the legend, as he is the only one who become the main protagonist for his franchise. The other Bruce Lee inspired, sadly they just become either side character or comical character in their respective franchise

25.11.2022I always saw Hon Fu as a Jackie Chun look-a-like maybe Bruce Lee In fighting

25.11.2022"The Illuminati is messing with his race cars." Okay, I know VF doesn't present its story that well, but come on, there's a little bit more to Jacky than that. Now Jeffry and his fish on the other hand…

24.11.2022You could have added Kim Wu here since she has Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune do fighting style with the nunchucks. She even had a one inch punch in her ultra combo early ender

24.11.2022I love Bruce Lee. He's one of the coolest actors the world has ever known. And he's one of a few celebrities who inspired me to learn martial arts. Alongside of Jean-Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, and Tony Jaa
