Bruce Lee is the legend of martial arts, no doubt about it. Fighting games very obviously enough have a lot of martial arts influence, and lots of characters have been based off various personalities over the years! However nobody has been honoured/copied/riped off more than Bruce Lee and this video is about those characters!

24.12.2022This was a great topic, I had a conversation with someone about this before
ExplosionRock
24.12.2022Jam kuradoberi from Guilty Gear is as far as I know the only female character inspired by Bruce Lee, seriously just look at her moveset, she even has the Dragon Kick.
But a great List none the less.

24.12.2022World Heroes not known enough or one of the better most fun fighting game franchises from the 90's? You're really terribly absolutely wrong there, World Heroes was at every 90's arcade for a very long while and even was a hit for home consoles. Maybe World Heroes would not be recognizable for like, Smash Bros players who didn't recognize Terry Bogard or knew about Fatal Fury games at first either when he was announced for Smash , but not for the rest of fighting game fans who'd really be into those since the 90's. Or maybe it wouldn't be recognizable at some states in USA where they would never have seen a World Heroes arcade machine ever, but worldwide it was a very common sight for Arcades in the 90's and everyone would want to play it, so much it spawned like 3 sequels and it's characters got several guest appearances in other fighting games. I'd even dare say World Heroes was third in fighting game popularity in the 90's, right next Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat or Fatal Fury 2.

24.12.2022Kenshiro is a Bruce lee like manga character, but Hokuto No Ken has a fighting game too.

24.12.2022"No, not this Raiden, nor this Raiden… this Raiden."
Fun fact, Fatal Fury Raiden is actually the first Raiden. A full year before Mortal Kombat.

19.12.2022I don't know… but I think Bloody Roar doesn't have Bruce Lee clone in it, maybe that's why they so underated 🤔 I really like the first and second game, after that it's kind so silly especially with penguin one…

19.12.2022Can we get another video in this vein but based on Pro-wrestlers? Not just grappler archetypes but pure blooded honest to god, "WWE would sign them if they weren't already on AEW" type wrestlers

19.12.2022I think Hon-Fu is more of a mixture of Jackie Chan (self harm, over exaggerating facial expressions, Hon Fu is a HK cop just like Jackie in various movies) and Bruce Lee (nunchucks and various WOOs)

19.12.2022Really enjoying these videos, nice work 👍

19.12.2022Trivia time!
Hon-Fu is based moreso after Jackie Chan than Bruce Lee; from his design to his mannerisms and even his slapstick comedy.
Kim Dragon is the first Bruce Lee clone in fighting games (World Heroes released one year before Super SF2).
Jann Lee learned how to fight by studying Bruce Lee movies, as shown by his DOA4 ending.
Forest Law is the Brandon Lee to Marshal's Bruce.
Honorable mentions!
Li Long (SoulCalibur)
K' (The King of Fighters)
Jon Talbain/Gallon (Darkstalkers)
Allen Snider [Street Fighter EX / Fighting Layer (EX)]
MG/Hikaru Otogi (Chaos Code)
Mr. Jones (Rage of the Dragons)
Jam Kuradoberi (Guilty Gear)
Joe Inagaki (Last Bronx)
Hundreds of characters from buried/no-name indie fighters.

19.12.2022Honestly it just feels complete when fighting games at least pay homage to Bruce Lee

zhaoyun255
14.12.2022Since you got the Bruce Lee inspiration, there is a fighting game in the PSX called Shaman King. There is a character called Tao Jun, the Taoist Necromancer Shaman who could control Jianshi (Chinese Zombie) at her will. She will summon her Guardian Jianshi to fight for her and his name was Lee Pyron aka the Bruce Lee Inspire character.

14.12.2022That Rasputin was shmoving
Dan Jackson
14.12.2022Hon Fu from Fatal Fury is more like if you crossed Jackie Chan's Police Story "Ka Kui" character and Bruce Lee's attitude and mouth noises.

14.12.2022I totally forgot about World Heroes!
Enrique Rivera
14.12.2022Spike Spiegel, he’s not a fighting game character but he definitely has Bruce lee inspirations as a Fighter, he uses jeet kune do and also talks about the philosophy of being like water in one episode.

14.12.2022You forgot Jam from GG and Chie persona it’s all good they are not as recognized

13.12.2022The journey is not about finding the best Bruce Lee character in fighting games, it's about the friends we made along the way.

13.12.2022Blaziken from Pokken is a Bruce Lee clone

13.12.2022Kim Wu from Killer Instinct might have been close enough to include, even though physically there isn't a resemblance since she's not a man.

13.12.2022You definitely should do loudest characters in fighting games lmfaooo that’s something I never really thought about I actually play a lot of dead or alive and I like him yelling at this point but when just played like that I’m like damn I can see how that can be annoying
Sean Gillooly
13.12.2022ive always considered KI's kim wu a bruce lee inspired character with the nunchucks, the dragons, and the flying kicks et. al.

13.12.2022Always nice to hear Vader's name mentioned in a non Wrestling context.

13.12.2022I can't believe you didn't mention Bruce Lee in Shaolin vs Wutang
Lord Raptor
13.12.2022One interesting note about Hon-Fu is that he's kind of a mix between Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan, he uses Bruce Lee's fighting style and resembles his look, but his personality is very much a homage to Jackie Chan and his comedy cop antics, similarly to Lei Wulong from Tekken.
RZq Hipnox
12.12.2022Funnily enough raidens original name in fatal fury was big bear.
Ed Miller
12.12.2022Great vid. Patrick from Polygon also did an in depth video about how Bruce Lee revolutionized martial arts movies as well as basically helping to create the fighting game genre as we know it.
Ed Miller
12.12.2022I heard Raven from Tekken is supposed to be inspired by Wesley Snipes's Blade and Simon Phoenix from Demolition Man.

12.12.2022Hon-Fu is more like B. Lee combined with Jackie chan.
Lee Chaolan in Tekken does jet kun do.

12.12.2022Nice idea and something different for the channel. Along the same vein and with video game preservation being a hot topic recently maybe start a series on obscure fighting games. Games like Last Bronx and Fighting Wushu.
